Basement Sessions are dedicated to bringing the best Hip Hop to the public. The digital element ensures that people around the World can get a flavour of the mix of talent from the UK, but to make the most impact we are developing the first Basement Sessions Live event. Currently approaching the Arts Council for funding, this is a large scale music culture event, featuring, music, live graffiti, breakdancing, merchandise stalls, competitions and more!
Here’s the key info that we can reveal so far:
Event: Basement Sessions Live
Location: Rainbow Warehouse, Birmingham
Date: 12th September 2009
Time: 9pm – 3am
Price: £6 advance, £8 on door
Lead Contributors:
- Louis Den: Running a Live 30 minute beat battle
- 3 UK Graffiti Artists doing live illustration with an art auction as the result
- Sensei FM: Live streaming audio and video on the night and also involved in DJ’ing throughout
- CMAT Studios: A recording studio based in Handsworth, Birmingham, where all of the musicians will be rehearsing and recording their tracks for a compilation
- UA Productions: Offering a full PA / Lighting set up and runners for the night
- Kung Fu Promotions: Based in London, Kung Fu will be promoting the event on the editorial, print and and radio side

In addition, various merchandise stalls will be offering up a range of clothing, accessories and general musical related goodness.
The night is intended to take place every 6 months, to build momentum and act as a celebration of Hip Hop culture.
The night will be filmed and edited alongside a compilation of the night to be promoted online and transfered to DVD for the next event.
A 3 round rhyming competition. This will consist of 3 rounds:
Grab Bag
16 Bar Accapella
Crowd participation
The winner will be crowned, given a recording session a CMAT studios, Birmingham, and a bunch of prizes courtesy of Soapbox Clothing.
During the night breakdancers from the local area will be invited to perform to the side of the stage.
An art auction will take place 2 weeks after the event at The Framers art shop in The Custard Factory featuring all of the art created at the event.
